Roy was the son of Jim Cumley and Lizzie Wright. He married Sarah Moberley who had two children from a previous marriage, Penny and Lonnie. He was a truck driver for G & L Trucking. Roy was killed when a dump truck backed over him. He had knelt down to light a cigarette and the driver did not see him. He died of multiple internal injuries at the age of 43.
