Mabel Teske, 97, of Rochester area dies

Mabel Teske, 97, a lifelong Rochester-area farm homemaker, died Monday (Nov. 14, 1994) at her daughter's home in St. Louis Park after a short illness.

Mabel Lutze was born Feb. 10, 1897, in Nebraska, moving with her family as an infant to this area. On June 22, 1920, she married Emil Teske in Rochester. The couple lived in Rochester Township off Minnesota 63 on St. Bridget's Road. Mrs. Teske was active in many organizations. In her younger years she was a 4-H club leader and won many awards. In 1937 she won a local cornhusking contents, beating out several local men. In 1971, at age 74, she was the recipient of the Book of Golden Deeds Award from the Rochester Exchange Club. In 1991 she was given the Mayor's Award for her help to the elderly. She was the oldest recipient of that award.

In 1962, Mrs. Teske's son, Arnold and daughter, Mrs. Mary Yocum and her husband were killed in an auto accident near Colorado Springs, Colo. The Teske's took the responsibility of raising the couple's 10-year-old son, Larry.

Mrs. Teske was a member of the 4-H Alumni, Farm Bureau, Samaritan Bethany Auxiliary, Clovia, and the Chatter Club as well as a long time member of First Christian Church since the early 1920s, where she was well known for her annual chicken noodle dinners. She was an avid historian and traveler.

She is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (Mrs. Earl) Paulson of St. Louis Park; 16 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, two sons, a daughter, a grandson, seven brothers and sisters.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at First Christian Church with the Rev. Richard L. Sagarsee officiating.

There will be no visitation and no reviewal.

The family requests no flowers.
