Sarah Ann Tarbell b. Cavendish (Windsor Co.) Vt. 21 Jan. 1827. She m. Cavendish, 24 Dec. 1851, Derrick Vanderhayden Adams of Brunswick, NY (b. Brunswick, NY, 10 March 1820, son of Joseph & Tina (Vanderheyden) Adams). Derrick came from a large family of brothers and sisters. His father owned a nice farm in Brunswick, New York valued at $9,000. In 1860 Derrick and Sarah were farming in Brunswick on the "Stone Road" on a farm valued at $5,000. His mother Tiny Adams age 68, was living with them in 1860. Derrick was on the NY tax list for 1866. He was taxed for $662 in income and $1 for his watch. When the Civil War broke, Derrick was on the list of Brunswick men able to do military duty between the ages of 20 and 45 years. He was then 42 yrs. old and did not serve, for he had a wife and family to support. In 1870 their farm was valued at $10,000. They were still in Brunswick when the 1880 census was taken. Working for them was a hired man, William T. Beattie (b. NY, age 40, single). Derrick d. in Brunswick, 28 April 1890 (age 71). Sarah d. 29 June 1897. (age 70).
