SCARBOROUGH—Nancy Jean Spencer, of Saco, died on June 19, 2016 at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough. Nancy was born on May 15, 1921, a daughter of George and Katherine (Shearer) Buck. She grew up as the third youngest of 9 children in Bangor and attended local schools. After high school, she married Everett Spencer on November 2, 1946. Together they moved to South Portland and later Cape Elizabeth where they raised their children. Upon Everett’s retirement, they moved to South Paris until his passing

Nancy will be remembered as a wonderful mother and wife who took great pride in caring for her family. She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching game shows, especially Jeopardy. She was a sweet, easygoing woman who was able to live independently up until a week before her passing.

She is survived by her children, G. Gary Spencer and his wife Leanne of Buxton, David Spencer and his wife Doreen of Buxton, Judith Allen and her husband John of South Paris, Paul Spencer of Portland, and Peter Spencer of Portland. Also surviving are daughter-in-law Beverly Spencer of Burnham; two stepsons, Reginald Spencer and his wife Kathy of Salem, and Terrance Spencer and his wife Harriet of Smithfield; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Everett Spencer; her daughter Sharon; her stepson Stephen Spencer; and her siblings, Ralph Buck, Doris Goody, Francis Buck, Robert Buck, Elizabeth Buck, Eleanor Beal, Barbara Lederman and Donald Buck.

A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Farmington. (Wiles Remembrance Center)
