"NEWS OF DEATH OF REV. V. C. EVERS.
The Kansan this morning received a very kind letter from Rev. W. V. Burns, formerly pastor of the Methodist church here, now serving the church at Iola, in which he encloses a clipping from a paper of Seattle, Wash., which he states was sent him by a sister in that city.
The clipping is as follows:
"Rev. Volney C. Evers, D. D., at one time pastor of the Woodlawn Methodist church in this city [Seattle], and one of Seattle's oldest clergymen in point of service, died today in the General hospital from pneumonia, aged 70 years.
Dr. Evers contracted influenza last fall and had been in poor health for some time before he was stricken with pneumonia. His last pastorate was at Anacortes. Before this he had occupied pupits, in this city and in the south and middle west.
He was pastor of the Woodland M. E. church from 1914 to 1917. The members of his congregation commented on his resemblance to President Woodrow Wilson. - Seattle Post-Intelligencer, January 12, 1919."
Rev. Evers was at one time pastor of the Newton church, and went from here to Great Bend. He was a very fine gentleman, and well liked while here. News of his death will be received with much regret."
