Jean Charlotte Kirby, 90, of Savoy passed away at 4:40 a.m. Monday (June 27, 2016) at Carle Foundation Hospital, Urbana.

Born on Dec. 5, 1925 in Strawn, she was the daughter of F. Verrene (Elliott) and Chester G. Stein with one sister, Bonnie (Stein) Traub surviving.

Jean married Owen R. Kirby on Oct. 4, 1947. He survives. They have three sons surviving, Richard (Sheila) Kirby, Ronald (Holly) Kirby and Robert (Claudia) Kirby; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jean was a graduate of Strawn High School Class of 1943 and Illinois State Normal University in 1947. Owen and Jean are members of the First United Methodist Church of Champaign.

Jean impacted many children's lives by teaching grade school children for over 50 years. She was a member of the Illinois Retired Teachers Association and Champaign County Farm Bureau. She and Owen were very active in local and National Association of Retired Federal Employees where they were able to serve in leadership capacities.
