Alice Columbia Jones was born June 24th, 1838 in King George County. Her parents were Stanfield Jones (1805-1875) and Frances Byron Douglas (1808-1862). She married John Lorenza Jett (1832-1901) on February 2nd, 1858. They had twelve children. The family moved to Northumberland County about 1885. The minutes of Morattico Baptist Church from September 1897 show that Alice and John joined the church by letter, transferring their membership from Hanover Church. The 1900 census shows Alice and John ages 62 and 68 living in Wicomico township of Northumberland County with their daughter Myrtle and her husband. According the census they have been married for 42 years and Alice gave birth to 13 children with 11 still living. No occupation was given for John, Alice works as a dressmaker. The 1910 census shows Alice still living with her daughter, Myrtle's, family. They have moved the White Stone in Lancaster County. At age 73 she is no longer working. She is listed as a widow having 12 children with 10 still living. Alice died September 27th, 1919. She was buried beside her husband in Irvington Baptist Church cemetery.
