Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, Vaughn F. Bate, age 93, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016.
He was born March 11, 1923 in Salt Lake City, UT to Jesse W. Bate and Hazel Finn Bate. He married Donna Rae Hatch in the Salt Lake Temple on September 12, 1946. He was an eagle scout and graduated from South High. He received a scholarship from Utah Power and Light and went to the U of U where he received his BS degree in engineering and later his MBA in Business Administration. He was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. He also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He worked at Utah Power and Light and Hill Air Force Base. He served on the Bountiful Power Commission for 14 years.
Vaughn was a High Priest in the LDS Church and served diligently in many callings. He served a church mission with his wife in the Riverside, CA. Mission and as a full time Service Missionary for 2 1/2 years on the Bountiful Temple, as it was being built. He spent countless hours at the Church Family History Center enjoying his love for genealogy. He loved helping his neighbors, gardening, golf and was a world traveler.
He is survived by his wife and best friend, Donna Rae of 70 years, daughters Joanne West (Neil), Shauna Pollmann (Steve) and son Lowell (Shari) Bate; fifteen grandchildren and thirty four great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Vaughn was preceded in death by his parents, sister Donna Rae Kautz and brother Marvin W. Bate.
Funeral services for Vaughn will be held on Wednesday, July 6, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Bountiful 54th Ward building at 540 N. 1200 E., Bountiful, UT. A viewing will be held on Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Russon Brothers Mortuary, 295 North Main Street, Bountiful, UT and at the church on Wednesday morning from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the services.
