Roman Catholic Cardinal. Camaoire born Ermenegildo Pellegrinetti entered seminary in Lucca, later furthering his studies in Rome at the Pontifical Roman Academy of San Tommaso d'Aquino, the Pontifical Roman Athenaeum Sant'Apollinare" and the Vatican School of Paleogrophy and Diplomacy. Ordained priest in Lucca on September 24, 1898, he formed part of the teaching staff of the local seminary from that same year until 1917, when he became a military chaplain during the Great War. Secretary to Msgr. Achille Ratti, future Pope Pius XI, while the latter acted as apostolic visitor in Poland in 1918, Pellegrinetti served as auditor of the said country's nunciature after being reestablished in 1919, staying in this position until 1922 when on May 24, Pope Benedict XV appointed him apostolic nuncio in Yugoslavia, electing him to the titular archbishopric see of Adana. Receiving his episcopal consecration on the following June 18 at the church of Santa Maria in Portico a Campitelli from Cardinal Pietro Gasparri, Pope Pius XI created him cardinal priest in the consistory of December 13, 1937 with the title of San Lorenzo in Panisperna. Rushed from the Palace of the Holy Office to a Roman hospital, Cardinal Pellegrinetti passed away following a delicate operation at sixty seven years of age and was buried in the collegiate church of his native Camaiore.
