Roman Catholic Cardinal. Piacenza born Remigio Crescini entered the Order of Saint Benedict at the abbey of Montecassino where he was ordained to the priesthood. Successively, he lectured theology and canon law in both Rome and Piacenza. Elected president general and abbot of the Benedictine monastery of San Giovanni Evangelista of Parma, he went on to serve as rector of local Collegio dei Nobili, being eventually elected bishop of the locality on June 23, 1828. Receiving his episcopal consecration on the following July 6 in Rome from Cardinal Giuseppe Spina, Pope Pius VIII created him cardinal priest in the consistory of July 27, 1829 with the title of San Giovanni a Porta Latina alongside Cesare Nembrini Pironi Gonzaga of Ancona. Fifteen days after receiving his red hat, while on his way back to Parma, having reached Montefiascone, some one hundred kilometres north of Rome, a stomach disease previously contracted brought his end while staying at the Aquila Bianca hotel. Buried at the local church of Saint Bartholomew, a marble slab was erected in his memory by his brothers Dionisio and Cesare in 1830, his heart was interred separately inside the cathedral of his diocese of Parma.
