William Robert “Bob” Bohr, 103, of Country Meadows at Leader Heights, who was formerly of Glen Rock, died Thursday July 7, 2016 at his residence. He was the husband of the late Lottie M. (Koller) Bohr.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday July 12, 2016 at the Geiple Funeral Home, Inc., 53 Main Street, Glen Rock, with Rev. Fred Walthour officiating. Viewings will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 AM Tuesday at the Funeral Home. Burial with military rites by the York County Veterans Honor Guard will be in Trinity U.C.C Church Cemetery, Glen Rock.
Mr. Bohr was born on July 25, 1912 in Lansdowne, MD and was a son of the late John H. and Nora Ann (Garner) Bohr.
He served during WW II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater of Operations in the US Coast Guard Amphibious Forces aboard the USS LST-767 and was discharged as a Petty Officer Electrician Mate and received several ribbons and citations including the Bronze Star for his service to his county.
Bob retired in 1978, after 25 years of employment with the Glen Rock Post Office where he was a Mail Carrier and Clerk. Following his retirement he was a Courier for two years with the Southern York County School District. Prior to working at the Post Office, Bob had worked at the former Glen Rock Power and Light Co., the York County Oil Co as a tanker driver and for several years at the Naval Ordinance Plant in York.
Mr. Bohr was the oldest member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Glen Rock and was honored by the Glen Rock Historic Preservation Society with Life Membership #1. He also held memberships in the Austin L Grove American Legion Post #403, the Western Democratic Club, the National Association of Letter Carriers Branch 4315, the York County Firefighters Association and the Jacobus Ambulance Club.
Formerly of Glen Rock he has been a resident of Country Meadows at Leader Heights since 1993.
He is survived by a daughter, the Rev. Christine L. Bohr and her husband the Rev. Dr. H. George Anderson of Decorah, Iowa and by a sister Ruth List of Hollidaysburg, PA. He was predeceased by seven brothers and sisters.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Trinity United Church of Christ, 27 Manchester St, Glen Rock, PA 17327
