Paul A. Lewis, 71, Anderson, died July 3, 1998, at his residence after an extended illness.
He was born March 31, 1927, to Guy C. Lewis and Phala K. Castor. He lived most of his life in Alexandria before moving to Anderson in 1987.
He was a 1945 graduate of Alexandria High School. He retired in 1982 as production supervisor at Johns-Mansville Corp., formerly of Alexandria, after 20 years of service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of the Golden Eagles of the National Rifle Association, Alexandria Conservation and Gun Club and the Ameteur Trapshooting Association. He was a veteran of WWII, serving as a corporal in the United States Marines. He was also a member of the Alexandria First Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Libby A. Lewis, whom he married Dec. 29, 1946; a daughter Sandy (Barney) Maynard of Fort Wayne; a son Alan Lewis pf Anderson; a sister Patricia Esmon of Orange City, Fla.; a brother Richard (Judith) Lewis of Hampton, N.J.; and seven grandchildren, Wendy Johnson, David Johnson, Chet Maynard, Guy Maynard, Christopher Cage, Ashley Lewis, and Chalee Lewis; and two great-grandchildren, Jessica Johnson and Gentry Mehling.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Owens Funeral Home, Alexandria, with the Rev. Clifton Richardson of First Baptist Church in Alexandria officiating. Private family interment services will be held at a later date at Jones Cemetery, Yorktown.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. until the hour of the service on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice Program of St. John's Medical Center through the funeral home.
