Musician. A bassist, he was a founding member of the ensemble "Booker T. & the M.G.'s" and was a featured artist on their gold single "Green Onions" (1962). Along with Booker T. Jones and Steve Cropper, Steinberg was a session musician at Stax Records, when the band came to fruition during the early 1960s. Their hit "Green Onions" attained a number three placing on the Billboard Pop Charts, in addition to receiving Gold Record status. This was followed with the album "Soul Dressing" (1965), which contained the hit single of the same title. Steinberg left the group following the album's recording and was replaced by Donald "Duck" Dunn. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of "Booker T. & the M.G.'s" in 1992 and was the recipient of a Grammy Award for Lifetime Achievement in 2007. He died from cancer.
