HAMPTON - James Henry Lufsey, age 66, lost his brave battle with cancer on April 5, 1998, at his home. He was a native of Hampton and resided in Fox Hill. He was a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Hampton Lodge. Jim was employed as a mechanic and shop foreman by Thompson Ford Inc. for over 30 years and retired from Freedom Ford Hampton in 1997.

He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Helen Hodge Lufsey; daughters, Cynthia L. Vastardis of Hanover, Pa., and Janet L. Norris, and her husband, William R. Norris, of Newport News; two grandchildren, Amanda C. Vastardis and Christopher L. Vastardis of Hanover, Pa.; brothers, Carter Morgan and Edward Lufsey of Hampton and Floyd Lufsey of Crockett, Texas; and sisters, Mary L. Coltrane of Hampton, Ann L. Anderson of Newport News, Francis M. Myers of Easley, S.C., Elizabeth M. Sleigh of Rustburg, Nettie L. Moore and Bertha L. Page of Poquoson.

Visitation with the family will be held at R. Hayden Smith Funeral Home in Hampton tonight at 8 p.m., followed by a memorial service led by the Rev. Joyce Johnson and Elk rites in the funeral home chapel. A private burial will take place in Parklawn Memorial Park. The family requests memorials be made to the American Red Cross, Hampton Roads Chapter, 4915 W. Mercury Blvd., Newport News, Va. 23605, in lieu of flowers.
