Mother of Lesley, Barry, Robin, Maurice, and Andy Gibb. Born in Manchester, Barbara met her future husband, Hughie Gibb while working as a vocalist in a dance hall. The couple married in 1944. Together they had five children, daughter Lesley in 1945, sons Barry in 1946, twins Robin and Maurice in 1949, and nine years later youngest son Andy in 1958. The Gibbs moved the family to Australia in 1958 and lived there for almost a decade. While living in Australia, Hughie and Barbara encouraged the singing talent of their three eldest sons. In 1966, the boys first hit single "Spicks and Specks" was released. When deciding a name for the group it became apparent that the family had several "Bs" and "Gs" in their names; Barry Gibb, Barbara Gibb, and the Brother's Gibb. Barry, Robin, and Maurice became the "Bee Gees." Hughie and Barbara watched with pride as their sons fame increased. The couple moved from Australia to Ibiza, Spain, before settling in Miami, Florida in 1978. With all of the success came many tragedies for Barbara. A successful solo-artist, Andy Gibb lost his battle to drug addiction in 1988 at age 30, dying in Barbara's arms. Hughie passed in 1992. In 2003, Maurice died suddenly, and in 2012, Robin lost a battle to cancer. Outliving three of her five children, Barbara endured what no mother should dare. She always had a positive disposition and still took pride in listening to her gifted sons albums. Robin's vibrato always brought tears to her eyes. She was the "Bee Gees" number one fan. Maurice always remembered his mother behind an ironing board pressing the uniforms for each performance. Now she can join her boys and be free from further heartbreak.
