Cassandra (Cassia) Banks was the daughter of Henry and Catherine Pruitt Banks, born in Wilkes County, North Carolina. Cassia came to Letcher County, Kentucky with her family, date not known. Cassia's four children were born in Letcher County. It is believed that Cassia came to Clay County after Lanceford maried Drucilla. Cassia was 30 years old when her first child, Martha, was born. The father of Cassia's four children was a person named Anderson Fields. The following quote from a deposition concerning a pension recorded in Clay County Court, August 1, 1871, by Lanceford Banks clarifies Cassia Banks' situation:

'My mother, Cassia Banks, is badly afflicted with rheumatism and cannot leave home. She now resides in a little house in front of my place. My father abandoned his family and went to Tennessee when I was quite a small boy and we have never directly heard from him since, and he has never contributed anything to the support of his family. My mother was never married to my father, and has never married.'

Cassia Banks died, circa 1880. It is believed Cassia was living near Taft in Owsley County at the time of her death. Taft was a post office designation in Owsley County near the Clay County line."

The above memorial for Cassia Banks is taken in its entirety from the family history book written March 3, 1986 by James B. Banks, Cassia's great grandson.

Cassandra lived with her son Lansford on his farm in 1880. Therefore she died sometime after 1880.
