Mary O'Brien (Smith) was the only daughter of Owen P. Smith "Founder and Inventor" of Greyhound Racing and Hannah M. Smith, first woman, ever, to head an International Sport. She had two brothers Edward and Owen, both younger.

She married Raymond L. O'Brien and had two children James Raymond and Patricia Ann.

At one point (1931) was elected as the young and pretty face of Greyhound Racing by the International Greyhound Racing Association (In.G.R.A.)

Mary had a champion greyhound named "Ladylike" that help the Guinness World Record for the fastest mile run by a dog.
