Mary Frances Braheney, 87, of West Hartford and Lake Hayward, East Haddam, died Friday, (February 3, 2012), at her home. Born in New Haven, August 31, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Maurice G. and Elizabeth Braheney and sister of the late Virginia and Elizabeth (Betty) Braheney. Mary Frances was a graduate of Norwich Free Academy, Norwich, and a graduate of Central Connecticut University (then New Britain Teachers' College). She did graduate work at the University of Hartford and Fairfield University. Mary Frances's career was spent as a teacher in West Hartford for 34 years. It was the joy of her life to be a teacher at the Whiting Lane School. Mary Frances took an early retirement and dedicated her life to taking care of her beloved sister Betty. She was a charter member of Mu Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, an international society for outstanding teachers, a member of NEA, CEA, WHEA, WHRTA, and AARP. Mary Frances spent her summers at the Braheney summer home at Lake Hayward, East Haddam. She had been there for over 64 years. Mary Frances was always on the go, enjoying being with her many friends, loving her dog, Ling Ling, watching her UConn Huskies and Mohegan Sun Basketball games. She is survived by her cousins, James Jamele of Cheshire and Patricia Darin of Killingworth. Mary Frances wishes to thank her special friends, Sister St. Henry Grenier, Kathleen Dunn, Joan Sonski, Joyce Bettencourt, Jane Begin, and Angela Ritter for their unconditional love and caring for her always. She would also like to thank her devoted caregivers, Marie, Merle, Mary and CT Hospice. The preceding appeared in the Hartford Courant on February 5 and 6, 2012.
