Opera Singer. A versatile soprano, she shall be remembered for her long career which took her to many of the world's major venues. Raised in Northern Italy, she studied at the Parma Conservatory as well as at the Accademia Chigiana of Sienna prior to her 1980 professional bow in Pergolesi's "La Serva Padrona". Daniela began a 30 year association with La Scala Milano in 1981 and over the years sang a large number of roles with widely differing vocal demands, among them Violetta of Verdi's "La Traviata", Rosina from Rossini's "The Barber of Seville", Verdi's two Amelias in "Simon Boccanegra" and "Un Ballo en Maschera", Mimi of Puccini's "La Boheme", Fiordiligi from Mozart's "Cosi fan tutte", Gilda in Verdi's "Rigoletto", La Contessa from Mozart's "The Marriage of Figaro", Nedda of Leoncavallo's "I Pagliacci", Verdi's two Leonoras in "La Forza del Destino" and "Il Trovatore", Minnie from Puccini's "La Fanciulla del West", the lost Desdemona of Verdi's "Otello", Mathilde in Rossini's "William Tell", and the title leads of Puccini's "Tosca", "Manon Lescaut", "Suor Angelica", and "Madame Butterfly", Bellini's "Norma", Verdi's "Luisa Miller" and "Aida", Donizetti's "Lucrezia Borgi" and "Maria Sturada", Cilea's "Adriana "Lecovreur", and Mascagni's "Iris". She was to be heard at the Vienna State Opera and the Deutsche Oper Berlin, and had the misfortune to be on stage as Aida on the 2001 night in Berlin when Maestro Giuseppe Sinopoli died of a heart attack in the orchestra pit. Daniela made her February 1, 1995 Metropolitan Opera bow as Nedda and was to sing another 20 times there up thru May 13, 2010, her other roles being Madame Butterfly and Tosca. She was to gradually forgo opera in favor of recitals but was to remain busy until her terminal Illness. Daniela died three months after being diagnosed with colon cancer leaving a massive recorded legacy.
