HUGO, Okla. -- H.E. "Herb" Needham, 96, of Hugo died Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2001, in Paris.
Services were at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at the Bill Darrough Pavilion in Mt. Olivet Cemetery with Dr. Edwin Bernard officiating. Burial was in Mt. Olivet Cemetery by Prater, Lampton-Mills and Coffey Funeral Home.
He was born Jan. 26, 1905, in Indian Terrioty [sic], Hugo, Okla., to Enoch Needham and Nettie McMurtrey Needham. He married Marjorie Patterson of Hugo on Oct. 26, 1929, in Walsenberg, Colo. Herb had lived in the Hugo area all of his life and was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Hugo.
He was an original Choctaw Indian enrollee. He was an early settler of the Hugo area and was the first postmaster1. Herb was an electrical engineer and was responsible for bringing power through the REA to many rural areas throughout America. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, on Jan. 11, 1972.
Surviving are his son, . . . ; his daughter, . . . ; two grandchildren, . . . ; a sister, . . . ; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family requests memorials be made to the Presbyterian Church of Hugo or the Goodland Home of Hugo.
