The Gadsden Times, Friday, March 20, 1964 - front page: Ex-Resident's Services Set. John Wilson Buttram, 58, former Gadsden resident associated for many years with a local radio station, died at 3 p.m. Wednesday in a Roanoke, Alabama hospital after an extended illness. For the past 15 years Mr. Buttram had lived in Roanoke where he was an owner and operator of a nursery business and a radio station. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow in Quattlebaum's Chapel, Roanoke with Revs. Leon Bailey and Bernard Fuller officiating. Graveside service will following at 3 p.m. in Crestwood Cemetery, Gadsden with Dr. Denson Franklin officiating. Survivors include two sons, John Wilson Buttram, Jr. and Walden Buttram, Roanoke; a daughter, Miss Zella Buttram, Roanoke; three brothers, Rev. Gus Buttram, Bessemer, Alabama; Corry Buttram, San Bernadino, California; Pat Buttram, North Ridge, California; three sisters, Mrs. R.S. Mauldin, Hueytown, Alabama; Mrs. J.R. Reed, Dunedin, Florida and Mrs. J.W. Burdick, Orlando, Florida.
