He was born August 20, 1939 in Milo MO. the son of Virgil Samual and Ruby Ellen Gilmore Hiestand. A Native of Nevada, MO and moving to Larned, KS after 1962, he was a Licensed Mental Health Technician at the Larned State Hospital, and a part time employee of Carr Auction and Real Estate, Larned.
He was a member of the Escue Chapel, CME Church and was baptized August 28, 2016. He was a member of the American Legion, Charter Member of American Legion Riders and member of the Brothers of the 3rd wheel, an avid hunter, fisherman and camper. He loved riding motorcycles and had been riding all his life; he always had to have the fastest loudest vehicle and loved souping them up. He loved riding the river in Larned, attending the Tired Iron Show; and most of all he loved his family.
On May 5, 1962 he married Cleo Ann Ellis. She passed away February 6, 2000.
Survivors include: four daughters, Janice Suppes (Paul), Newton, KS., Brenda Barker, Larned, KS., Joyce Haberman, Larned, KS, and DeAnn Baker (Corey), Newton, KS.; Companion, Frieda Augustine, Cawker City, KS.; two brothers, Larry Hiestand, Nevada, MO. and Steve Cartwright, Colorado Springs, CO.; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren with one on the way and several granddogs.
He was preceded in death by, former companion, Sue Greathouse and one sister Shirley Rae Hiestand.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Beckwith Mortuary Chapel, Larned with Pastor Cameron Moore presiding. Visitation will be 9 am to 8 pm. Tuesday and Wednesday at the mortuary. Inurnment will be in the Larned Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites
