Altoona Evening Mirror, 26 September 1892:

Mrs. Susan Rhodes died at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Weaver, in Gaysport, September 24, aged 79 years, 4 months and 7 days. Mrs. Rhodes is the widow of Samuel Rhodes, who with three children preceded his aged wife to the grave a number of years ago. She is survived by eight children, two boys and six daughters, John and Samuel Rhodes, Mrs. Elizabeth Delozier, Mrs. Sarah Brant, Mrs. Catherine Coons, Mrs. Barbara Weaver, Mrs. Susan Mitchell and Mrs. Rachel Keller. She is also survived by forty-six grandchildren and twenty-seven great grandchildren. Grandmother Rhodes was born a short distance from East freedom, Blair county, and has been a resident of this county ever since. She had a large circle of friends and acquaintances in this part of the county. A brother in the West and a sister in Altoona also survive the deceased. The deceased was a consistent member of the Lutheran church since childhood. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. T.F. Reeser at the home of Mr. Morris Weaver at 5 o'clock: interred in the Newry cemetery.

Mrs. Susan Rhodes, widow of Samuel Rhodes, died at the home of her son-in-law, Morris Weaver, on Union street, Gaysport, at 4 o'clock on Saturday morning. Dropsy was the cause of death. The deceased was aged 79 years, 4 months, and was a daughter of Mr. Frederick Singer, of Hagerstown, Md. Her husband, Samuel Rhodes, pre-deceased her twenty-eight years. A sister, Mrs. Mary Detweiler, resides in Altoona, and a brother, Mr. George Singer, is a resident of Clarion county, Ohio. She is also survived by the following eight children: John Rhodes, of the soldier's home at Erie; Mrs. John Delozier, of Stanford station; Mrs. Sarah Brant and Mrs. Emanuel Coons, both of this place; Mrs. Morris Weaver, of Gaysport; Samuel Rhodes, of Blair township; Mrs. Susan Mitchell, of Westmoreland county, and Mrs. Rachel Keller, of Bellwood. The deceased was a member of the Lutheran church. The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. T.F. Reeser at the home of Mr. Morris Weaver at 5 o'clock this afternoon. Interment in the Newry cemetery.
