JoAnn Howard, 85, of Midwest City, Oklahoma, passed away at Hospice Quality Care in Midwest City, Oklahoma, October 1st, 2016. JoAnn was born September 11, 1931 in Jennings, Oklahoma to John and Corda Endicott. She was the fifth born of 6 children and was the only daughter.

Though very petite in stature, she had a heart larger than herself. She attended and graduated from High School in Shamrock, Oklahoma. It was in Shamrock where she met her soul mate and partner for life, James “Don” Howard. They were married for 58 years until he passed away in 2010. We are comforted in knowing she is now reunited with so many she loved that passed before her.

Her husband, Don Howard, joined the United States Air Force in 1949, and Don and JoAnn married on June the 17th, 1951. Don faithfully served our country for 21 years with the love and support of JoAnn. They had many interesting adventures together as they were stationed across various states in the US as well as Libya, North Africa. She was an amazing mother to her three grateful daughters, Karen, Sandy, and Lisa. Don and JoAnn returned to Oklahoma in 1970 after retiring from the USAF, to be close to their families. They mostly lived in Midwest City, Oklahoma during the next 40 years of their lives, though they did live in Norman, Oklahoma for a number of years.

JoAnn was a devoted, loyal, and loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She was one of the kindest and most embracing persons in all of God’s creation. Her immediate and extended family only scratched the surface of the many lives she touched over the years. She became a mother and grandmother to many of her children’s friends as well as Karen’s and Sandy’s step children and grandchildren. She was fondly known as “Grandmo” or “Little Mama.“ She always saw the good in people and made others always feel welcomed and at ease in her presence. She had a genuinely selfless, generous, and pure spirit that truly blessed all who knew her.

JoAnn loved watching movies, going out to eat, and watching college football. She loved music of all kinds and had a beautiful voice, though one rarely ever heard her sing due to her modesty. Her favorite TV show was “The Voice“. She dearly loved birds and always had numerous birdfeeders. Her favorite bird was the Humming Bird. Before she became ill, she was a wonderful cook and homemaker. Her house was always immaculate, with nothing out of place. Thanksgiving and Christmas were lavish events for all, but the greatest gift was always her remarkable presence. She loved to make a large assortment of Christmas candy and desserts. She would start at least two months ahead, and loved sharing these treats with family and friends.

Later in life, after retirement, Don and JoAnn loved to travel in their fifth wheel trailer. They had many fond memories of spending precious moments with their grandsons, family members and friends on these journeys. She was fun loving and dearly loved socializing with family and friends. However, what she loved the most was being in the presence of her children, grandchildren, her great grandchildren, both her own and all those she adopted in her heart. Even though it was so very sad watching her decline with her advancing dementia in the last years of her life, seeing one of these little ones never failed to bring instant elation and a big smile upon her face.

JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Don Howard, her brother Virgil Endicott and his wife, Pearl, her brother Leo Endicott and his wife, Kathryn, her brother Bob Endicott and his wife, Mary, her sister-in- law, Clara Endicott, her son-in-law, John Stuart, and step granddaughter, Kristen Vannoy. Jo Ann is survived by daughters, Karen and son-in-law, Gary Vannoy of Oklahoma City, Sandy Howard Stuart and Lisa Vegh, and her former son-in-law, Marc Vegh, all of Midwest City, her brother, J.D. Endicott and Juanita Jolly of Lawton, her brother Tommy Endicott and wife, Betty, of Hurst, Texas, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Tom and Norma Howard of Norman. She is also survived by 3 grandchildren, Cameron Bentley and his wife, Tiffany Bentley of Choctaw, Khale Vegh and April Hurley of Midwest City, Mikhal Vegh of Midwest City, step granddaughter and husband, Angel and Eddie Stepien of Eufala, step granddaughter Erin and husband Ashton Rose of Colorado, step grandson, John Quinton Stuart, and 3 great grandchildren, Caden and Carson Bentley, Harper Vegh and 6 step great grandchildren, Angie Stepien, Evie and Carrick Rose, and Amara, Bailee and Emerie Hurley.
