Ellen (Nellie) G. Abbey 1841-1938
Ellen was the adopted daughter of Henry Stephen Abbey (1808 – 1873) and Elizabeth Smith (1807 - 1874). She had one brother Henry Eugene Abbey (1846 – 1896).
She was born in October 1849 in Akron, Ohio and married Sylvanus Edward Phinney (1838 – 1934) a Shoe Store Owner in Akron. They had two children:
Emma Henrietta Phinney (1871 – 1930)
Edward Allen Phinney (1877 - 1955)
Ellen died on November 2, 1938 in East Orange, New Jersey. Her obituary was published in the Akron Beacon Journal on November 8, 1938 at said:
PHINNEY
Mrs. S.E., age 91 years, formally of
Akron, died in East Orange, N.J.,
Nov. 2. Funeral Services were held
in that city Nov. 4.
