James "Jim" Harbolt, was the son of Adam Harbolt and Mary Ann Sheets Harbolt. James and William were twin brothers. James' middle initial is R or L.

James Harbolt was a US. Civil War Soldier for the Union side. He was a Private in the 12th Regiment, Company A Ohio Cavalry. He enlisted Oct 1, 1863. Mustered out on November 14, 1865 at Nashville, Tennessee.

James "Jim" Harbolt, married, Savanah Patience Shelburne Harbolt on 4/17/1866 in Vigo County, Indiania. They had a son, Alonzo Harbolt, 1869 - 1884. He died at the age of 15. Savanah and James were married for 11 years before she died. Alonzo was 8 years old when he lost his mom and they are buried together at Fairbury Cemetery, Fairbury, Jefferson County, Nebraska. They possibly had two other children: Edgar W. Harbolt 1867-1869 and Charles Laverne Harbolt, 1872-1951.

Jane Noble Tillott Harbolt, was James "Jim" Harbolt's 2nd wife. They married on, March 31, 1879 in Sullivan County, Missouri, two years after the death of his 1st wife. James and Jane had one daughter, Laura Mae Harbolt Trissel, 9-5-1880 (Or 1883) - 9-1-1984. Laura had a brother that came with her and her mom to Oklahoma Territory in 1900. They came by way of horse and buggy. They homesteaded on two farm sites North of Mooreland, Oklahoma. Laura's brother was, Ira Sankey Harbolt, 1-15-1880 - 10-11-1970.

James "Jim" Harbolt's, memorial says he died in 1881 and his military record states he died October 4, 1881. His daughter was apparently born in 1883 so someone's date is not correct. Laura's headstone is engraved with the dates of her birth and death as well as, The Mooreland Leader newspaper Obituary.

Eva Goeken found a SS Death index for Laura Tressel born 5 Sept 1880 and death Sept 1984. More research is needed on this.

Eva Light Goeken's 2nd Great Aunt, Savanah Patience Shelburne Harbolt, was the 1st wife of Jim. This photo has been in their family for years and they tried to find a descendant to give it to but never could find any until Fall of 2017, when I sent Eva a message on FindAGrave. Eva managed the memorial for Jim's 1st wife, so I sent Eva a message to see if this, James Harbolt, was the same man that married, Jane Noble Tillott Harbolt, his 2nd wife and my 2nd Great Grandmother. At the time, Jane Noble Tillott Harbolt, was not connected to this memorial of, James Harbolt, and I was trying to connect them if they were the right individuals that I thought they were. She sent me a message back and said, "Yes!" Eva told me the story of the photo and how they had been looking for a descendant to pass it on to. She mailed me this photo. It was taken when he was married to his first wife.

It was such a blessing to receive such a precious gift! Thank you Eva Light Goeken!

A newspaper article from Ramona Perkins #49658110, that was in the Milan Standard Newspaper in Milan, Missouri in Sullivan County about James Harbolt's death, is as follows:

"Shocking murder near Sticklerville. James Harbold killed by Jesse Peak. Cause of difficulty, a quarrel which arose from Peak striking Harbold's boy with a whip. The boy was herding cattle on the range and his dog got after Peak's cattle, when Peak became angry and struck the boy. He reported the act to his father, who in a quarrel with Peak concerning the act lost his life."

After researching this murder a little more, I found information about it in the book, "History of Missouri 1888." This is what it said:
"James Peak was indicted at the October term, 1881, for killing James R. Harbolt, having stabbed him in the neck October 3, 1881, of which wound he died the same day. The indictment was for murder in the second degree; the verdict was guilty, and the sentence was three years in the penitentiary."
