FOSTORIA -- Carl E. Conine, 83, of 21903 Ohio 12, Fostoria, died at 10:22 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, 2000 at Fostoria Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 20, 1916 in Arcadia to Charles and Mary Ellen (Gangle) Conine. He married Dorothy M. Deiter Aug. 14, 1948 and she survives. Other survivors include three sons, Gary E. and Ronald L., both of rural Fostoria; and Douglas M. of rural Findlay; a daughter, Mrs. Gary (Sandra K.) Franks, Arcadia; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; five stepgreat-grandchildren; and five sisters, Dessie Wells, Arcadia; and Marjorie Nesbitt, Marilyn Miller, Lois Holman and Betty Heischman, all of Fostoria. He was preceded in death by four sisters, Gyneth Garman, Lovene Seaman, Dorothy Robbins and Mariam Binger; and five brothers, Arthur, Alfred, Clayton, Paul R. and Kenneth. Mr. Conine was a retired farmer. He served in the U.S. Army in the European and North African theaters during World War II. He was a Silver Star recipient. He was a member of Fostoria Baptist Church, where he had been a deacon, Arcadia Lions Club and Arcadia Athletic Boosters. He was a former committee member of the American Soil and Conservation Service and was a former Washington Township trustee. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at Coldren-Crates Funeral Home, the Rev. David P. Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Knollcrest Cemetery, near Arcadia. Graveside military rites will be conducted by the Hancock County Veterans Memorial Squad. Visitation will be held after 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the church or Arcadia Athletic Boosters Weight Room.
