Katalin Mariassy, 65, a retired secretary at General Telephone & Electronics Corp., died of cancer Dec. 15 at her home in Washington.
Born in Hungary, Miss Mariassy joined the Hungarian Foreign Service as a secretary in 1939. Her first post was Athens, but on her return to Hungary in 1944 she refused to pledge her allegiance to the Nazi-imposed regime and left the government.
She rejoined the Hungarian Foreign Service after World War II and was assigned to the legation in Washington. She resigned in June 1947 when the Communist government took power in Hungary.
She was a secretary at GTE from 1952 until she retired in 1977. She had been active in the Hungarian community in Washington, especially in helping with Hungarian refugees.
Survivors include a sister, Judith Mariassy Almasy of Washington.
