Widow of Maj George Washington Tomlinson. He died Dec 18, 1882. She filed for his Civil War pension January 31, 1883.

Civil War Nurse: Sarah Dunlap McCahon was descended from a long line of Presbyterian ministers. Her great grandfather Rev James Dunlap DD, was the third president of Jefferson college at Cannonsburg, Pa. During the Civil War, Mrs. Tomlinson lived at Oar lisle. When the rebels attacked the city on the night of July 1, 1863 the college building was used as a hospital. While the shells of the enemy were screaming through the city, Mrs. Tomlinson went to the temporary hospital and assisted the surgeons in the care of the wounded. Subsequently, when her husband was wounded, she went to the hospital to nurse him in Washington where he was lying. Finding the food and care of the wounded officers not what they should have been, she secured through the surgeon in charge and with the sanction of Miss Dix of the sanitary commission, sole charge of the domestic service of the hospital including the discipline of the nurses and discharged the heavy duties with such success as to satisfy every requirement satisfy every requirement.
