Mrs. Nilarea Bacon Dickerson Thomas, age 86, died Friday at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro.
The native and lifelong resident of Bulloch County was a homemaker and was of the Baptist faith.
She was a loving, charismatic, true “ Southern Belle”. She never took anything for granted.
Nilarea loved her family and always put them first.
She was a fighter and an extremely hard worker.
She carried a smile and had a laugh that would brighten your day. She truly loved God.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank D. and Thelma Denmark Bacon; her first husband, Ewell James Dickerson; two sons, Randy E. Dickerson and Raymond Dickerson; five brothers and a sister.
Surviving are her husband, Johnny Lee Thomas of Statesboro; five sons and two daughters-in-law, Larry and Tammy Dickerson of Savannah; Richard Dickerson, Ronald Dickerson and Donald Dickerson all of Statesboro and Billy Joe and Sonja Thomas of Williston, North Dakota; seven grandchildren, Cara Thomas, Wesley Thomas, Chris Dickerson, Josh Dickerson, Danny Dickerson, Taylor Dickerson and Cheyanne Dickerson; 10 great grandchildren; a sister, Pearl B. Hagan of Pembroke and a sister-in-law, Dean Bacon of Brooklet.
Several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive visitors on Sunday from 4:00pm until 6:00pm at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home in Statesboro.
Funeral services will be Monday at 2:00pm in the chapel of Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Patrick McElveen officiating.
Interment will be in the Upper Mill Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Chris Dickerson, Danny Dickerson, Josh Dickerson, Ashley Hagan, Wesley Thomas and James Bacon.
