John Gregory O'Connell unexpectedly passed away at his residence on Thursday, November 3, 2016, to join our Heavenly Father.

John attended and graduated from Marinette Catholic Central in 1981. John was 53 years old and spent the majority of his time in Marinette, Wis., but had also lived in Illinois and California.

He was involved in various businesses throughout his life, in sales and the restaurant industry. He was also in the insurance business with his cousin, Jack Hanenan, and spent time in Sacramento and Las Vegas. While living in Chicago, John became a loyal Chicago Bears fan, much to the dismay of his family (go Pack go!). His hobbies included playing poker, magic and creating balloon animals. John had an extraordinary sense of humor. His ability to tell stories and jokes always had people laughing, sometimes for hours on end. Although he had many hospital stays, John would always find the time to bring joy to the staff and other patients, especially children, with his creation of balloon animals and his quick wit.

John was preceded in death by his father, George.

He is survived by his mother, Julia;
his son, Joie Fort;
fiancée, Stephanie Anderson;
his four brothers: Paul (Lisa Glomski), Bill, Kevin (Kara Greiten) and Charlie (Jackie).
John also had a very special and loving relationship with his sister-in-law, Jackie;
his two nieces: Linda and Julia;
and was extremely proud to have a namesake in his nephew, Johnathan Jay O'Connell.

Friends may call at Thielen Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 9th, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. A Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be said on Thursday, November 10th, at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Parish-St. Joseph Church in Marinette, Wis. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery.
