Eleanor "Tiny" Story Nowels
Eleanor "Tiny" Story Nowels, died at the age of 84, November 17, 1995 in Boise, Idaho, after a long illness.
She was born in Ouray, Colorado on January 10, 1911, to
Florence Blanche MacArthur and
William Story Jr. She moved with her family to Salt Lake City in 1912. Eleanor attended Rowland Hall School for Girls and graduated from Bishops School for Girls in LaJolla, Calif. in 1930. She attended the University of Utah where she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority. Eleanor married Allison LeRoy Nowels, June 18, 1942. She was a charter member of the Junior League of Salt Lake and spent many years volunteering in programs to help those with Cerebral Palsy. She was a member of the League of Women Voters and the Rowland Hall Home School and Alumni Associates. She was also active in Scouting.
Tiny was a beloved mother, aunt, grandmother and friend, who touched the lives of many with her love and understanding. She had an acute and insightful mind with a wonderful sense of humor. She loved learning and was an advocate of education. Her many interests included her love of poetry and gardening.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her husband in 1988. She is survived by her four children: . . ., Robert "Bob" Nowels, Spokane, Wash.; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
There will be a memorial service celebrating the life of Eleanor Nowels on Saturday, November 25, 1995, at 4 p.m. in the Rowland Hall-St. Marks School Chapel, 205 First Ave., Salt Lake City, Utah, where friends may call one half hour prior to service. A private graveside ceremony will precede the memorial service at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, her wish was that donations be made to the Rowland Hall-St. Mark's Endowment Fund, 205 First Ave, Salt Lake City, Utah 84102.
