Businessman, CEO. He served as the president and corporate executive officer (CEO) of Earthlink, an Atlanta based Internet Service Provider. He joined Earthlink in 1996 and oversaw the company's growth from a moderately sized business with half a million subscribers, to a nationally based company with over 5 million customers. He was a 1979 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology where he received a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering. Prior to joining Earthlink he served as the CEO of Digital Communication Associates Incorporated. At the time of his association with Digital Communications, he was the youngest CEO of a company listed on the New York Stock Exchange. He began his career with the International Business Machine (IBM) Corporation, and also worked for Proctor and Gamble and as vice president of Hayes Microcomputer Products. He was a member of the board of directors for Equifax, Global Payments Inc., and the Carter Center Board of Councilors. He died from complications of cancer at the age of 49.
