Betty F. Schuerman, 94, of Springfield, died at 4:20 a.m. on Thursday, November 24, 2016 at Senior Star at Weber Place in Romeoville, Illinois.

Betty was born on November 5, 1922 in Springfield, the daughter of Albert C. and Frances C. Schlorit Bradley. She married William H. Schuerman on October 25, 1947. He preceded her in death.

Betty attended Edison and Washington Junior High Schools and graduated from Springfield High School in 1940. She went on to attend Sangamon State University where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics, a master's degree in Psychology, and a master's degree in Mathematics.

Betty worked as a metallurgist for Wright Aeronautical and International Harvester Research in Chicago. She taught math at LaGrange Highlands Middle School for four years and later worked as a math teacher at Lanphier High School. She taught in District 186 for 23 years. After having three children, Betty returned to DePaul University to receive her educational credits to be a teacher.

Betty was born and raised in Springfield. She lived in other cities in Illinois for 25 years and returned to her hometown in 1964. She was the author and leader of Project Brite, a federally granted program to show elementary teachers a different way to teach math. She was also a member of Springfield Area Retired Teachers Club, Land of Lincoln Retired Teachers Association, Polka Club of America and St. John's Lutheran Church.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents; and a daughter, Cathy. She is survived by her son, Robert William (Irene) Schuerman of Springfield; daughter, Sally (William) Schuerman Johnson of Crest Hill; four grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren and great-great- grandchildren.

Cremation will be accorded by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.

Memorial Gathering: Family will receive friends from 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home, 900 S. 6th Street, Springfield.

Memorial Ceremony: 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 2, 2016 at Kirlin-Egan & Butler Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Busboom officiating.

Burial will be at Oak Ridge Cemetery following the ceremony.
