Danish queen. She was queen from 1340 to 1374 as the consort of King Waldemar IV of Denmark and was a daughter of Duke Eric II of Schleswig and Adelaide of Holstein-Rendsburg. Her years of birth and death are estimated. A brother of hers claimed the right to the Danish throne against King Christopher II of Denmark. Having made an alliance with Waldemar, Christopher's son, her brother arranged for her to marry him. Their wedding in 1340 was at Sønderborg Castle. Arriving in Viborg they were proclaimed King and Queen of Denmark. After 1353 when their daughter, the future Margaret I of Denmark, was born, there is no record of King Waldemar still living with her. It was claimed in various rumors that they had separated because of adultery by him or by her or by both. She was allegedly locked up at Søborg Castle and moved to Esrum Abbey in 1355, where she died as famula nostra (our servant). Buried in the abbey church, a petition to the pope by Queen Margaret I to have her reburied in 1377 came to nothing.
