Professional Hockey Player, Coach. Born William Patrick Dineen, he played the right wing position for the National Hockey League's Detroit Red Wings from 1954 to 1958. He began his hockey career by playing for the St. Michael's Majors of the OHL. He then spent the next five years in the NHL with the Red Wings. During his tenure with the Red Wings, he scored 47 goals and assisted on 35 more in 282 games. He also helped the Red Wings win the Stanley Cup in both 1954 and 1955. He played briefly for the Chicago Black Hawks during the 1957-58 season. He would go on to play in the minor leagues before retiring as a player in 1971. After retiring, he coached in the minors and the World Hockey Association, before getting a chance to coach in the NHL with the Philadelphia Flyers from 1991-92 to 1992-1993. Three of his sons (Gordon, Peter, and Kevin) also played in the National Hockey League.
