Fur trader, settler. An early settler of Red River, Lagimodière was one of the first to bring his young wife west. His child, Reine, was the first European child born in the west, in 1807. After learning that a settlement of Scots would be attempted in Red River, he moved his family there, often helping to feed the people of the settlement. In 1815-16, he undertook a year-long, round-trip journey from Winnipeg to Montreal on foot to warn the Earl of Selkirk about the declining conditions at Red River. He was the grandfather of Louis Riel.
