Death of an old citizen
There died on yesterday morning on Charlotte Street, a gentleman who in life was as highly respected, as in death his memory is honored. Forty years ago, Captain J.J. Young came to this city, and with a short interval while he was a boatswain in the navy, he has resided in our midst. Captain Young was a notary public and shipping agent in 1856 and up to the opening of the war, when he raised a company of heavy artillery, with which he remained as commanding officer until the close of hostilities. Returning home he became a master stevedore, and remained in that business until ill health cause him to retire for good. A widow and five children are left to mourn his taking off. This morning at 9 o'clock the funeral services will take place at St. Mary's Church, whence his remains will be taken for burial.
