US Congressman. A member of the Republican Party, he served the 27th Congressional District of the State of California within the United States House of Representatives from 1965 until 1969. Raised in the Los Angeles-area, he served as a radioman with the United States Navy during World War II. Following his return home, he enrolled at the California Institute of Technology, were he received a degree in Mechanical Engineering and later established an irrigation manufacturing company which made lawn equipment. During his tenure in Congress, he served as a member of the Interior Committee. In 1969, he resigned his Congressional seat when Governor Reagan appointed him as Lieutenant Governor. During his time in that office, he was committed to bring about changes within the University of California system. His career was damaged when he was convicted of perjury after a phone conversation with embattled Attorney General John Mitchell, in regards to his lobbying for the 1972 Republican National Convention in which he attempted to lure to San Diego. He was convicted of perjury and resigned his position. However, his conviction was overturned due to a technology. Reinecke ran an unsuccessful bid to become Governor of California in 1974. He made a comeback in the political arena, when he served as Vice chairman of the California Republican Party and in 1983, rose to Chairman and served at that capacity until 1985.
