Well Digger Electrocuted On Harlem

Dennis Newton, 23 year old, Route 66 and East Avenue, Lyons township, a well digger, was electrocuted last Wednesday when a high tension wire touched a boom he was operating at 51st St & Harlem Ave.

Funeral services for him were held yesterday from the Wendt Chapel, 9513 Cook Ave, Oak Lawn, Illinois. Burial was in Memorial Estates cemetery. Newton is survived by his widow, Hazel and a 10 month old daughter. A verdict of accidental death was returned by a coroner’s jury Thursday.

Newton apparently was standing by the side of his well drilling truck operating the 40-foot high boom by means of a crank with the steel boom touched a high tension wire, electrocuting him. Newton’s body fell over the crank and his head and arms dangled in a pool of water and muck, maintaining the electrical current.
