Verna Jean (VJ) Hinkley passed on Nov 13, 2015. She was born November 23, 1924 in Yakima, to Carroll Harrison Clark and Melva Laird Clark. She graduated from Yakima High School in 1942 1/2. She attended Washington State University and University of Washington before marrying Walter Hinkley March 23, 1946 in Yakima. They spent 58 years together before his passing in 2004.VJ worked for Pacific Northwest Bell until 1965 when they moved to Libby Montana, where they built and operated Mi-T-Kleen Laundromat, which gave her an opportunity to use her excellent seamstress skills. There they enjoyed swimming & huckleberry picking until retiring in 1988 and returning to Yakima.Mom loved spending time with her family and friends. She is survived by Greg and Pam Hinkley of Yakima, Brad Hinkley and Toni Cooley of Spokane; Granddaughters Lisa,Jill,Sara and Lynn; Grandsons Chris and Adam ; Great Grandaughters Hannah,Katie and Emma; Great Grandson Jacob.The family would like to thank the staff at Suntower Retirement home and the amazing caregivers at Cottage in the Meadow for the exceptional care she was given. At VJ's request, no services will be held. Mom's family will have a celebration of her life at a later date. Memorials in her honor may be made to Cottage in the Meadow, in care of Valley Hills Funeral Home (2600 Business Ln., Yakima, WA 98901) Valley Hills Funeral Home is caring for the family.
