Mary was the daughter of Martin King. On 30 Jun 1880 she married James Whittingham and they had four daughters: Mary, Kathryn, Agnes and Eva. James died in 1890 as a result of injuries that he received in the 1890 Louisville Cyclone. After his death, she moved the family to Alabama where, for a time, she ran a boarding house. Mary died at the age of 82.
