Betty Louise Sousley was born August 5, 1926, in Yakima, Wa., the third child of Harland and Elsie (Mayer) Huff, joining siblings Fred (Bob) and Lois. She was raised in Yakima and graduated from Yakima High School with the class of 1944.

On March 8, 1947, Betty married Jack R. Sousley, and later that year the couple moved to Goldendale, Wa., where sons John and Ken were born. The family returned to Yakima in 1952, and with the exception of two years spent in Boise, Id., remained in Yakima.

After Jack retired, they spent 6 months each year in Sun City West, Az., where they made many new friends and enjoyed many memorable experiences. After Jack passed away in 1986, Betty continued to winter in Arizona, returning to Yakima and family and friends for the summer months. In 1994 Betty moved home permanently to be close to her family.

Always a competitor, Betty enjoyed bowling and absolutely loved golf. Her women's bowling teams won three league titles. She won two Women's Club championships at the Yakima Country Club, and in 60-plus years of playing golf, scored 4 holes-in-one. Whenever Jack tried to tell her how she could improve her game, she was sure to remind him that he had only one ace to his name, and no club championships! Betty was the third woman inducted into the YCC Women's Division Hall of Fame.

She was a wonderful Mom, a good friend to many, and she will be missed.

Betty is survived by her sister Lois Blair (Dale), her sister-in-law Ella Huff, her sons John (Joan) and Ken (Karen), of Yakima, her three grandsons, Robb (Christine) of West Seattle, Justin (Molly) of Seattle, and Ryan (Erin) of Coeur d' Alene, Id., granddaughter Kendra Staymates, four great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Betty's life will take place at the Yakima Country Club on Sunday, June 22, 2014, from 1:30 to 3:30.

In honor of Betty's great love of the game of golf, the family requests memorials be directed to The First Tee of Yakima, PO Box 787, Yakima, WA 98907.
