Ennis Preston McWilliams Sr was born on July 8, 1888 in Mount Juliet, Wilson County, Tennessee, the son of Ewing Lemuel McWilliams (1857–1913) and Emma Lee (Cawthon) McWilliams (1864–1936).

He was married on July 31, 1921 in Davidson County to Alma Priscilla Walker (1888–1963).

Ennis was a member of Edgefield Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a retired employee of Metropolitan Life Insurance Company, having worked for that company from 1931 until 1953. Living at 807 Boscobel Street in Nashville, he was 71 years old and married when he passed away on July 31, 1959 at Baptist Hospital.

Survivors included his widow Alma Walker McWilliams and brothers Ewing McWilliams in Atlanta, Harry B McWilliams of Selma, Alabama and Paul McWilliams of New York City.

Funeral Services were held on August 3rd at Edgefield Cumberland Presbyterian Church, and burial was in Spring Hill Cemetery, Nashville.
