Dee or Jesse Dee was the son of Rosella Presley and the grandfather to Elvis Presley.

Jesse has NO RELATION to a John Warren or John Wallace. Please read my profile page for more information. Please do not request an edit to add John Warren or a John Wallace as this would be incorrect information.

Jesse died at the Methodist Evangelical Hospital in Louisville, at age 76, and was moved to the Arch L Heady Southern Funeral Home at 3601 Taylor Boulevard, Louisville. He was interred at Louisville Memorial Gardens West.

Dunning John Presley, Jr. was Rosella's father, thus she passed down the name Dunning to Jesse. The name McClowell has been erroneously listed as McDowell, in many records.

Since the Census tells the story of movement of family members, and location of living quarters, I have listed the highlights below for 1900, 1910, 1920, 1930 and 1940.

Per the 1 JUN 1900 US Census, Pleasanton Precinct, Township 9, ED 36, Itawamba Co., MS,
Rosie is head of household, living with her children, Walter G, 20, Minnie E, 10, Noah E, 9, D. McClowell, 4, (or Jesse Dee Presley)

Per the 15 APR 1910 US Census, Clay Precinct, Beat 5, Itawamba Co., MS, ED 21, Jesse Dee goes by the name DEE only, and is living in the house with his older brother Noah, as head of household, age 20, Rose, his mother, age 45, a widow, Dee, 14, Cal, 11, Mack, 9, and Robbie (female), 7.

Per the 2 JAN 1920 US Census, Stone Crossroads Precinct, ED 19, Itawamba Co., MS., Dee is no longer living in the same household as Rosella. Rosella's home consisted of herself, Rosie, 55, Robbie, 16, and Joseph, 13. Thus all of Rosella's children were born during her marriage, prior to 1910, where she is listed as a widow.

Per the 1930 US Census, Beat 3, Lee Co., MS,
Jesse D., age 34, was head of household and married to Minnie M. , age 37, Presley.
Jesse, 34, and Minnie Mae, 34, were the parents of five children and living with their children, per the census:
Vester Lee, son, 15
Vernon E., son, 14
Delter M., daughter, 10 (actual name is "Delta")
Gladys E., daughter, 7
Nashvill L., daughter, 4

Per the 1940 US Census, Kelly Street, East Tupelo, Lee Co., MS, Beat 3, all Presley names were mis-spelled "Pressley"; Jesse, 44, and Minnie Mae, 44, were living with the following children:
Gladys, daughter, 18, Loreene (Nashvill), daughter, 14.

Vester, 25, (typo on Census "Nester") was living next door and was married to Cleta, 20. Cleta is the Census spelling, which is a typo and should be spelled "Clettes".

Note the exception that Vernon, his wife, Gladys, and son Elvis are not living on Kelly Street at this time. They are living in the Belden community of Tupelo, per the census.

Other Presley family members living on Kelly Street, in 1940 during the census are:

Marshall, 27, and Vona (typo "Varna") Mae, 29, Brown, nee Presley, with their children, Mary, 12, Gerald, 7 and Joyce, 3. The Presley family dialect placed an "r" on the end of names and words, thus Vona Mae was "Vonar Mae", when it was spoken. The Enumerator did the best she could based on pronunciation and spelling.

Sales, 22, and Annie Presley, 18, with their daughter, Doris, age 1.

Gordon, 22, and Pernie Presley, 24, with their children, Kenneth, 2, Katherine, 5 months and N.P. (Noah), as Head of household, age 50.

Eack (typo "Zack"), 32, and Ethel Presley, 28, nee McCoy, with their son, Jerry, 3, and Ethel's brother, JT (John Teague) McCoy, age 23.

Jesse moved to Louisville, KY from Tupelo, MS in 1943. While living in Louisville, Jesse worked for Columbia Manufacturing Company at 845 S. Ninth as a wooden mantel assembler and cabinet maker.

Per the 1917-1918 US WW Draft card, the name is spelled Jesse and the date of birth is 9 APR 1897. Jesse and Minnie were living in Fulton, MS, at this time.
