On January 4th 2017 the world felt a tremble. Our husband and our father and our grandfather and our brother and our friend, John, passed away at the ripe old age of 80. He had just celebrated his 80th birthday with his family in Boise, and had fully enjoyed the festivities of Christmas and New Year surrounded by laughter and the love of family and friends. He would have told you that making it to 80 was a minor miracle and we will tell you it was a miracle for us to spend so long with him. John is survived by his wife Barbara, his three sons Scott (Amy), Brian (Rachel) and John (Mairi), his brothers Charlie and Bob, and his grandchildren Harry and Addie.

John went to Rugby High graduating in 1954. Following his graduation he joined the Navy in July. He was released October 1957.

John entered North Dakota State University to study accounting in 1958. Graduated four years later head of his class. He moved to Denver and went to work at Arthur Young. He met his wife, Barbara, of twenty five years while serving on the Insurance Committee at the Colorado Society of CPAs. Barbara was with John when he died and he had the opportunity to look at her and say goodbye. It is a precious memory for Barbara for which we are all so glad.

It is a credit to him that his sons are all uniquely different. It may be his greatest gift. He taught his boys to ride horses and motorcycles and to hunt and camp and fish. He moved them up to Conifer in 1977 as young boys so they could grow up in the mountains.

John was an extremely intelligent man and he passed that on to his children. He was also a stubborn man and has passed down that family trait too. John loved without condition. He loved Barbara with all of his heart and he loved his 3 boys exactly equally. He never had a favorite, another great gift to us.

John has left his mark on the world with his wisdom, his love, and his presence. We are all here to carry on his legacy. The world was a much better place with John in it and is much emptier now that he is gone. We will do our best to live up to the standard he set. He is missed as a husband and a father and a brother and a grandfather and a friend. The greatest gift he gave to all of us was simply himself and we are eternally grateful and shall remember John always.
