American Singer and Songwriter. He was a singer-songwriter whose songs incorporated country, folk, roots rock and soul, that have been recorded by Vince Gill, Robert Earl Keen, Steve Earle and Billy Bragg among others. He began visiting folk clubs in Greenwich Village in his teens during the early 1970s. The following decade, he moved to New York City and formed the Greg Trooper Band and released their debut record, 'We Won’t Dance' in 1986. Three years later, Vince Gill recorded the title track for his album 'When I Call Your Name'. In the mid-1990s, he moved to Nashville and recorded more than a dozen critically acclaimed albums, including 'Everywhere' (1992), 'Popular Demons' (1998), 'Straight Down Rain' (2001), 'Make It Through This World' (2005), 'The Williamsburg Affair' (2009), 'Incident On Willow Street' (2013) and 'Live at the Rock Room' (2015). Fellow artists such as Emmylou Harris and Rosanne Cash contributed harmony vocals to his albums. Trooper died two days after his 61st birthday and fewer than two years after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
