Delaware Governor. A member of the Republican Party, he served as the 63rd Governor of the State of Delaware from December 1960 until January 1961. Educated at the University of Delaware, he later attained his law degree from Dickinson College. During World War II, he was stationed in the Pacific Theater as an artillery commander with the United States Army and rose to the rank of major. Following his return home, he commenced practicing law in his native Delaware and in 1955 at the age of thirty-five, he was serving on the bench of the Court of the Common Pleas. In 1957, he was elected as Lieutenant Governor of the State of Delaware and following Governor James C. Boggs resignation in late 1960 (Boggs went on to serve as a US Senator from Delaware), Buckson succeeded him to complete the remainder of his term. He had two unsuccessful bids for his own term as Delaware Governor (1964 and 1968). Buckson went on to serve as Attorney General of Delaware from 1963 until 1971. He returned to the bench in 1975 to serve as a family court judge.
