Major League Baseball Player. For seven seasons (2005 to 2010 and 2014), he played at the third base and first base positions with the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Indians and Arizona Diamondbacks. Born Andy Manuel Marte, he attended Liceo Nueva Esperanza High School in the Dominican Republic, prior to being signed as an amateur free agent by the Atlanta Braves in 2000. During his Minor League career, he received a high ranking among prospects. He marked his Major League debut with Atlanta on June 5, 2005 and played in 24 games that season. After he was acquired by Cleveland, his playing time increased as he served as a backup third baseman for Brett Boone, Casey Blake and Jhonny Peralta. In 2008, he produced a career-high 52 hits. In 2010, he was called upon to pitch and yielded a scoreless inning. In 308 career regular season games, he compiled 186 hits with a lifetime .218 batting average. Marte died in an automobile accident in his native Dominican Republic. He had just completed his second season (2016) as a player in the Korean Baseball Organization.
