Alton was a brother to Lloyd Bentsen, Sr., and an uncle to Senator and 1988 Democratic Vice-Presidential Nominee Lloyd Bentsen, Jr. He was born in White, SD, and three birth years different from the 1893 on his tombstone are indicated (1891 on his death certificate, 1894 on the Social Security death index & South Dakota, Birth Index, 1856-1915, and 1895 on a WWII draft card.) I believe 1894 to be the correct birth year (his brother Lloyd M. Bentsen, Sr., according to his Social Security Death Index as well as info he gave on his WWII draft card, was born 24 Nov 1895, by the way). He married a woman from White, Blanche Delia Tompkins, on 26 Sep 1917. After Blanche died in 1937, Alton remarried on 12 Jun 1938, to Leone Walling (1907-1994), of Childress, Texas. They were living together in a 1940 U. S. Census for Hildago County, Texas, with Thomas and Robert, sons of Blanche Tompkins and Alton. Alton's Texas death certificate indicates he was buried at Roselawn.
